Shermila, a self-taught artist, traces her creative roots back to her childhood in the lush tropics of Sri Lanka. Growing up, she spent hours exploring her artistic side, sketching, painting, and sculpting with natural clay from her backyard. Although her passion for art was evident, a career as a full-time artist seemed like an unlikely dream. Instead, she pursued a corporate path, until the arrival of her first child prompted her to re-evaluate her priorities. As she devoted herself to motherhood, Shermila rediscovered her love for art, scribbling whenever she could. Years later, with two children in tow, she made the bold decision to leave her corporate life behind and dedicate herself to art full-time.
As Shermila rediscovered her artistic voice, she found solace in the vibrant flora and majestic landscapes of New Zealand, where she moved in 2023. The earthy tones and textures of her homeland merged with the bold colours and delicate petals of her adopted country, inspiring a unique blend of styles.
Today, Shermila's artwork is a reflection of her deepened appreciation for the beauty and diversity of our natural world. With a newfound sense of purpose, she strives to share her art with the world, beautifying walls and touching hearts.
