I am a self-taught, full-time artist based in Auckland, New Zealand. I have always been a quiet observer, drawn to the details and moments that invite me to pause. I find myself returning to flowers, gardens, quiet greens, forests, wildflower patches, and even the grass beneath my feet. I have an enormous respect for nature, especially for the beauty that exists quietly and undisturbed, away from the noise of the world.
My relationship with art began in childhood, growing up in Sri Lanka, where I spent countless hours sketching, painting and sculpting with clay from our backyard. After years away from art while pursuing a corporate career and raising my children, I returned to painting during the 2020 lockdown. Although that period was brief, it reopened something in me that had never really disappeared. In late 2024, I returned to painting with a renewed commitment and began my professional practice.
Through my paintings, I want to create the feeling of being there. I want the viewer to feel as though the scene is right in front of them, as though they have stepped into a garden, a field or a quiet patch of nature and are standing there alone for a moment. I am interested in the world that is already around us, but that we sometimes move too quickly to truly see.
Painting has also become a way of getting to know myself better. Away from the noise and expectations of everyday life, I have discovered parts of myself that were not always obvious to me. Creating quietly has given me a space to observe, to reflect and to keep discovering who I am becoming.
My work has been exhibited with ArtPoint and Waitākere Arts. In 2026, I received the People’s Choice Award at my first curated group exhibition. It was a deeply humbling experience and gave me a renewed sense of gratitude for the connection people can find with a painting. I look forward to continuing to grow as an artist and to creating more quiet worlds for others to step into.
