In the Wide Stillness was inspired by moments from a friend’s journey through New Zealand’s South Island in late summer. In the distance, Mt Sefton rose quietly beyond the open land, as seen from Mount Cook Village, while wildflowers and butterflies filled the foreground with small movements of life.
What stayed with me was the feeling of the island itself, the vast, open spaces, the wildness, and a sense of calm that seems less interrupted by human presence. The mountains remain distant and still, while life carries on freely beneath them.
Perhaps that is exactly the kind of world I long for: a place with room to breathe, where the noise feels far away, and nature is simply allowed to be. A world where stillness is not emptiness, but something alive.
